  Nokomis=Our Grandmothers

 Holding Space. Honouring Stories. Healing Together.
Meet Crystal

ABOUT Crystal C. Easton

I was born & raised in Nak'azdli Whut'en, Fort St. James BC. My Parents, siblings and extended family still live there, and I return 'home' for work and play as much as possible. My Grandparents were (M) Cree, Dene, Metis, and (P) Scottish & Danish Canadians. My Family is my inspiration, especially my mom - she is an indigenous dayschool survivor, having suffered colonial/racialized violence, cultural oppression, and inter-generational trauma and yet she raised us- her children and foster-children- as well as she could with gentle hands, listening ears, kind words, and generous love.

I started Nokomis Counselling & Wellness Services because I seek to pass along to you, my relations, that soft supportive energy that I received when I needed it. I named my therapy practice 'Nokomis' meaning 'Our Grandmothers', because of the wisdom and patience that extends through me, from my ancestors and living mentors to each and every client I encounter.

Because of them, my Mother, Grandmothers, Mentors, teachers, I am well and my family is healthy and peaceful. We are imperfect, but the cycles of violence and addiction were broken and healing has begun.

The therapies I offer my clients are ONLY those that have worked for myself and my loved ones. I love to learn and I continue to invest in my 'medicine basket' because I never know what will be useful to the next person, so I gather what I can...for you.

Approach

A Nokomis Approach:
Grounded, Accepting & Empowering Therapy
Specializing in Complex Trauma & Resiliency

My 'Therapeutic Approach' is

Indigenous Trauma & Resiliency-informed;

 Meaning we focus on building safety & trust first, then work together on your treatment plan - highlighting tools, skills and relations that are important to you;

This part often includes

  • organizing emotions,

  • getting free from unhelpful trauma patterns,

  • learning to listen to the wisdom of the body,

  • following up with support when facing new challenges

  • celebrating your milestones -and-

We build on Values that are meaningful for you-

We may connect your stories and your goals to your Creator/God (however you know and name your higher power), Ancestors, land, water, and culturally restorative ceremonies.

I remain non- judgemental about your 'spiritual orientation', whether that is well-developed, shattered, or starting over.

ITR: Indigenous Trauma & Resiliency means-

We take our time, and stay connected as long as it's helpful for you.

We identify and build on strengths and support that already exists in your life.

We discover what works for you, your learning style, and how you fit into the great community-web of life-death-life.

We affirm your ways of knowing and being with your land and your community.

What about Non-Indigenous People?

YES, I do work with people who do not identify as indigenous, and the therapies I use (primarily IFOT-CT and Hypnotherapy) can be healing for folks from a range of cultural backgrounds;

I hold an inclusive attitude, use inclusive language, and I value stories from all cultures.

If any of this is difficult to understand, I welcome your questions and will do my best to address your concerns. Click here to Email me
